A few early thoughts for 2009

I wanted to throw out a quick post before I go to bed and put 2008 to rest. Kelly McCausey had kind of an impromptu chat party in her conference room so I got to hang out with some wonderful Work at Home Moms tonight discussing our goals, our projects, our thoughts on everything from paid blogging to Twitter. I walked away from it with some new friends, a lot of insights and even some guest blogging and volunteer opportunities.

During a conversation about the whole “WAHM as a target market” thing, I shared this thought: one of my favorite things about hanging out with other work at home moms (or wannabe WAHMs) is watching them grow, hearing their good news and, most of all, watching another Mom explore her options…and then that moment when something clicks for them.

So to all of you struggling work at home moms (I’m one of them!) or moms who want to work at home, I hope that of all the things that happen to you this coming year, finding your passion and making a living out of it is one of them. (And I mean it when I say that if there is anything I can do to help, even if its just sending you some links to legit work at home opportunities, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Leave a comment, find me on Twitter @apriltara or email me at thatcrazymom@gmail.com.)

Have a happy, healthy, prosperous 2009. And thank you all for sharing 2008 with me.

WAHM Wish

If you follow me on Twitter, you may have seen me using the hashtag #wahmwish and wondered “Huh? What’s a wahm wish?”

Well, here’s the short version. Kelly McCausey, another WAHM I admire, has been working with others to grant holiday wishes for other work at home moms for services or products to help them grow their business. If you visit WAHM Talk Radio, you can see where it all started.

Just a few days into it, it has been a great success but there’s still more to come. Here’s just a few examples of wishes that have been granted so far:

Now, I may be a little biased here, but my favorite WAHM Wish so far is one granted by Alice Seba, the Internet Marketing Sweetie. Alice is sending one very lucky (and grateful!!) work at home mom a video camera, RCA EZ300HD Small Wonder High Definition Digital Camcorder (Black). (Gee, I wonder who that lucky WAHM is!;) )

And, of course, I wanted to do my part to help out another WAHM so I’m going to be doing a blog makeover for my friend Diane.

So if you are a WAHM and you have a few wishes you’d like to make or if you are in a position to donate a product or service to help out some of these moms, please follow Kelly McCausey on Twitter and watch for her tweets containing the hashtag #wahmwish and let her know!

I’m a Blog Design Idol finalist!

I am both thrilled and honored to be one of the Blog Design Idol finalists at Jessica Knows. But here’s the problem – I’m in last place.

Now I’m not taking any offense or insult to that because I think that my blog designs have a different target market than the others. The other finalists seem to have more of a scrapbook-ish “Mom blog” style whereas  my current and most recent designs have all been for business blogs.

I started out doing Blogger templates for other Mom bloggers and, while I really enjoyed it, my focus now is on professional Word Press blogs. In fact, some of the Mom blog clients I had have come back to have me do their business blogs. Even though Jessica is a Mom who blogs, I see Jessica Knows as more of a professional blog because she writes about things like marketing, PR, and social media.

So even though I may not win over the “Mom blog” voters, I am still completely grateful to be included among the finalists and I am thankful for the additional exposure.

Oh, and I will love you forever if you vote for me. :)
