This blog is the number 1 result for "crazy moms motrin" search on Google.

Which is why I'm posting here with a big WHA?

What's the big deal? Some moms take everything about motherhood so dang personally, while being otherwise totally normal people with well-adjusted personalities. Why do they think every mom commercial is talking about them? Wasn't this person just trying to be empathetic?

But you know what? I completely give in. I do NOT mess with moms under any circumstance. I never know when they are going to hang fifty tons of emotional laundry on one ambiguous comment.

I wasn't so much offended by it, more like annoyed. The woman's tone of voice and the "supposedly" and "official mom" stuff was rude.

I think I must be weird (ok so I am weird...lol) but I did not get offended over the commercial. I don't know why but it just didn't phase me the least little bit. That's why I stayed out of all the Twitter talk and blog posts about it - I was afraid I'd get knocked over the head by some moms that were offended. I do understand the points of those of you that were offended though.

Motrin's Big Headache (Apology):

Nov 20th
So…it’s been almost 4 days since I apologized here for our Motrin advertising. What an unbelievable 4 days it’s been. Believe me when I say we’ve been taking our own headache medicine here lately!

Btw - if you’re confused by this - we removed our Motrin ad campaign from the marketplace on Sunday because we realized through your feedback that we had missed the mark and insulted many moms. We didn’t mean to…but we did. We've been able to get most of the ads out of circulation, but those in magazines will, unfortunately, be out there for a while.

We are listening to you, and we know that's the best place to start as we move ahead. More to come on that.

In the end, we have been reminded of age-old lessons that are tried and true:

When you make a mistake - own up to it, and say you’re sorry.

          Learn from that mistake.

That’s all... for now.

Sincerely,

Kathy Widmer
VP Marketing
McNeil Consumer Healthcare

The rest of the story is coming out... apparently the agency who created the campaign for Motrin was formed in August. I imagine they all have huge headaches right now.

But give them (or McNeil/JNJ) some credit. They've apologized and they've shut down Motrin.com on a Sunday night. Big companies typically don't move this fast.
