Hey, if this is your first time here, subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
I was watching the Biography channel earlier this week for like 5 hours straight because they were covering George Carlin, Jimi Hendrix, and Janis Joplin plus a documentary about the whole hippie movement.I made a comment on Twitter that I’ve always felt like I was born in the wrong decade. Like ten years too late, to be exact. Instead of being a kid in the 70’s, I should’ve been in my teen years. Man, that would’ve rocked!
Anyway, Jessica @ Jessica Knows, as one of the mom’s in Wal-Mart’s “11 Moms” project is having a contest where we’re supposed to write a blog post about a fall fashion trend and why we love the look. Then whichever look is chosen as the winner will be replicated by Jessica herself, armed with her Flip video camera, at her local Wal-Mart store.
So here’s mine. Now before I post it, I want to point out that this is NOT a trend because I don’t follow “trends”. I just know what I like and I don’t care if its in style right now or not. Its MY style, damnit, and I like it.
Ok, here’s my “J4″ look. (See if you can figure out why I call it that.) It’s a cross between 60’s Bohemian (Janis Joplin with the boots, jewelry, flowing hair and clothes) and 70’s punk (Joan Jett with the ripped jeans, black leather, black eyeliner). Total rocker chick.

So there ya have it. I’ve never pretended to be some sort of trendsetter. I go with what works, what’s comfortable for me.
And I seriously hope this look wins because I wanna see what Jessica and Wal-Mart can come up with.

Oh dear child, of course I’m voting for you. So you wanna be like Gram here? OK, I came of age in the early 1970s. You’re close in your look. I swung both ways, flower child & preppy. Depended on the day. I had the shortest shorts, but never the boots with the shorts. Hat yes, when I went to London in 1969. Not really into the T-shirts. Bell bottoms yes. Liked Joplin, but couldn’t dress like her. Long hair yes. Still wear the black eyeliner, a/la Barbra. Doesn’t look like me with out. Clueless as to who Joan Jett is. Good Luck to you! And yes, the music rocked, and that’s why everyone’s trying to re-do it now, but the original was the best. And hey, Happy Woodstock Anniversary this week! Don’t remember it? Watch the movie.
