What Gloria Steinem and I have in common

September 4th, 2008 · 2 Comments · Ranting, WTF?

Hey, if this is your first time here, subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Gloria Steinem and I have the same birthday. Seriously! March 25th, same as Elton John, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Aretha Franklin.

We’ve got something else in common too. She thinks Gov. Palin is the wrong woman to be the poster child for modern feminism.

I usually only go off on political rants when I’m in the car by myself listening to NPR. (By the way, to the people who know me in real life, the fact that I actually enjoy listening to NPR is crazier than the fact that I talk to myself while I’m driving.)

But come on!! Do you seriously expect me to keep my opinions to myself? Because I have tons of them. The RNC has given me a bad case of diarrhea of the brain.

First of all, who does John McCain think he’s kidding? We’re not stupid. We know he chose Sarah Palin because of what’s between her legs, not what’s between her ears. (Side note: did you know if you rearrange the letters in “Sarah Palin”, you get Anal Parish? Now if you listen really closely, you can hear a little thud which is the sound of about 47 Twitter people and 19 blog readers dropping me faster than Ali dropped Liston.)

You shore do have a purdy mouth!

"You shore do have a purdy mouth!"

So if you want to bring a chick into the Ol’ Boy Network, why this one? Why not a woman who is, oh I dunno, qualified and experienced enough to run the freakin’ country when McCain keels over?

I used to work for a company that left their hiring up to a guy who…well, let’s just say he was thinking with the wrong head when he made his hiring decisions. I’d like to say that I got that job because of what was in my resumé, not my pants…but I can’t. I got the job because of my looks, I kept the job - and worked my way up to department supervisor - because I’m smart. But you know what happens when you hire a woman just because she’s a woman? Ask the former owner of that company. If you can find him. Trust me, you don’t want this country to end up like that company (including employees sneaking into the building after hours to have sex on the boss’ leather couch…not that I know anyone who did that.)

Seriously, this has got to be the worst case of affirmative action-type hiring ever. She’s just not qualified to be second-in-command.

And that speech! Ugh. Nothing but attacks and jokes. It sounded more like a roast on Comedy Central than a political speech. Sure, she’s sassy and snarky. But she’s going to get her ass handed to her on a silver platter when the VP debates roll around.

As far as the whole pregnant teen stuff goes, it pisses me off that its even an issue and as the mother of a pregnant teen myself, that’s the only area where I will support her. But I do have two comments on it: 1) so how’s that “abstinence only” stuff working for ya? and 2) with the way McCain handled that whole Larry King interview, maybe he could’ve taught Miss Bristol and her boyfriend a few things about pulling out at the last minute.

Picking Palin as VP just sounds more like a publicity stunt than an informed, careful decision with a lot of thought put into it. And assuming that women will now run to the polls to vote for the McCain/Palin ticket is an insult to our intelligence.

On a side note, I haven’t heard a word from my favorite Obama-hater who also happens to be a bit of a misogynist since the VP decision was announced.

These posts are kinda similar to this one…

I’m not going anywhere, so you can count me out as one of the twitter people dropping you from my list. Actually, you’re the one person I completely agree with. Most arguments I’ve seen I only 80% agree with.

I like a variety of friends, many of us don’t feel the same way on most things and that’s okay. To each his own! :) Even if I completely disagreed with you, I wouldn’t go anywhere.

I think he chose her hoping to bring in more female votes, and sure it may have worked for some but I stick by my own feelings: it’s what is intended to be done when the person is in office that I care about. Then I just go with the person I agree most with when it comes time to vote!

I’m not going anywhere either. Brilliant minds tend to think alike. I also am not one to hold back on my opinions, I agree with you, and you can read my Rant on Sarah Palin here.

Don’t let all we women have fought for fly out the window over an egotist.
