Remember when you were 17?

Hey, if this is your first time here, subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

And you knew everything?

Well guess how old Sissy is? *shakes head*

Sissy has decided that she doesn’t like my rules and she doesn’t like the consequences of breaking said rules. So she ran away. And, of course, there is a boy involved.

See, around here, when you get caught lying, your grades start slipping and you’re mean to your siblings, you get grounded. Grounded means losing the cell phone and access to teh Internets. And to a 17 year old girl, that’s the equivalent of depriving them of food and water because they are just.going.to.DIE.

But when you’re 17 and you know Everything, the only way to get around that is to go somewhere where you don’t have to follow rules and you can hang out with your Boyfriend all you want.

Nice try.

See, there’s a reason why I am That Crazy Mom. I don’t tolerate a whole lot of bullshit. Which means I’m not going to keep calling you and driving all over town trying to find you and beg you to come home and use Being Grounded as a bargaining tool. I’ll let Law Enforcement deal with you.

I gave her several chances to come home as did the police officer. And she didn’t take them. So when they finally found her (or she turned herself in), they told her they were taking her home. Then she did what every Teenager Who Knows Everything would do and told them “I’ll just run away again.”

So they took her to a group home. I’m guessing being Grounded would have been a picnic compared to that. But when you make bad decisions, you suffer the consequences. I guess it wasn’t so safe for her to assume that they were just going to let her run wild and go stay wherever she wanted.

But having survived Knowing Everything myself, I tried telling her that. Oh dear Goddess, how I would love to be able to just transfer my experiences and wisdom into her teenage brain. But, being MY child, she is stubborn and has to learn it for herself.

I will admit that I was a hundred times worse than that at 17. I don’t know how my mother survived my teen years. I do know that it took a lot of Tough Love on her part so I guess I’ll just have to use some of that myself.
