Would you want a mom like me?

August 7th, 2008 · 6 Comments · My Kids Rock, Totally Random

Hey, if this is your first time here, subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

I have taken “snooping through your child’s diary” to a whole new level. Look what I did to Bubba.

The kids have their own computer - thanks, Memaw! - and I rarely ever get on it. And when Princess does, she uses Kidzui instead of Firefox or IE. So Bubba has FF set up how he wants it, with all of his bookmarks and passwords and stuff. Anyway, I got on it the other day to check something on it and I saw the link to his blog on his toolbar.

Oh c’mon. What mother would pass up a chance to embarass their child?? Yeah, yeah, I know, most of you would. But I think we’ve established I’m not like other moms.

But you have to understand the relationship my kids and I have. Even though we’ve had more than our fair share of adversity and obstacles - mental illness, custody battles, poverty - we have always been close and we have FUN which, according to the Baby Daddies equals, bad parenting.

Posting on Bubba’s blog under his name? That’s nothing compared to the time he almost got us kicked out of JCPenney for his impersonation of a flaming - and very loud- gay guy. (Hey, I never claimed we had class. Just FUN.)

And it could have been worse. I could’ve posted the chicken pox story. Even though I vowed to take that one to my grave and never tell his future wife about it, I still love to tease him about it and threaten him with it.

I don’t know where certain people got the idea that I’m a bad parent because I have fun with my kids and because I let them be themselves rather than trying to force them into the mold of Model Citizen. Yeah, I let Sissy do most of her back-to-school-clothes shopping at Hot Topic. I let my kids watch Family Guy and explain some of the jokes they don’t get because they’re not old like me. I let Princess paint her nails cobalt blue and run around the house with no underwear on under her dress. Where’s the harm in that?

They still have rules, chores, and expectations. In fact, those rules and expectations were what prompted Sissy to run away in February. She had been grounded because of lying to me about school and her relationship with a certain Loser boy. Rather than face the punishment of losing her cell phone and Internet privileges (OMG!!!111!!1!!! NOOOO!!11!!!!!!), she decided to run away. Rather than back me up in enforcing the rules (like the police officers did), DHHS allowed her to go live in a foster home. The caseworker and the foster mom bought her sob story about how I’m so mean so they gave in to her. Guess what? Two months later, she was pregnant. By the same Loser boy she had been lying to me about. Wow. Good job, people.

Anyway, back to my original point….I have fun with my kids, I tease them, I horse around with them. I treat them like people, not property. Go ahead. Call CPS on me for it. Tell ‘em April said hi.

I see absolutely no harm in having fun with our kids and allowing them to be themselves. As long as we’ve given them boundaries, etc it’s healthy to have fun too. I couldn’t stop giggling when I read the post over on your son’s blog…that was too funny.

See girl? Another reason why I *heart* your blog.

Bring it. For real. All the f-bombs. All the unorthodox sh–.

I am STILL crackin’ up about you guys getting kicked out of JCP. But how can you bring up the chicken pox story and NOT share? You’re killin’ us, April. Killin’ us.

    ;)

Funny. As my kids get older they find all this MUCH less funny. I need to remember to NOT be so serious with them especially as the teen years creep up on us!

I’m an adult now, but the blog thing makes me glad that my parents don’t know much about “the world wide interweb” and how it works. :)
